Happy Birthday Betty - Most Visited Page on this blog

Unlimited Photos
No Reason.
I just thought
it was clever.

Things ain't what they used to be.
(In fact, they never was.)
The Profile (more than you really wanted to know) is
here.

For the first ten days of 2009, Thinks Happen will feature the most visited blog pages of the two blogs, Thinks Happen and Lost Gallery. This will be in Letterman style, least-to-most, with the most visited page on January 10.

Isn’t that exciting?

Here's number ONE! From April 22, 2007, the most popular page on the two blogs is ...

Bettie Page

Speaking of Icons; today is the birthday of Bettie Page; the greatest Pin-Up of all time.
The mystique of her influence and style, her look, thrives today. She had more magazine appearances than Marilyn Monroe and Cindy Crawford combined according to the fine book on her life by Karen Essex and James L. Swanson. At the height of her career she disappeared. She lives in anonymity and seclusion today (April 22, 2007) at age 84.

Happy Birthday Bettie. And thanks.

Sadly, we lost Bettie Page in December of 2008.
So, Goodbye Bettie, and thanks.

Here is the official web site for Bettie Page.

This is the web site for the movie about her life: "The Notorious Bettie Page"

And here is a fun site from a really avid fan: The Bettie page

little Annie Fannie

And consider this…
Little Annie Fannie will be 45 this year(2009).

And Betty Boop will be 79.
(2009)

Betty Boop

Jack Davis, Richard Nixon

While …um, dwelling on this sobering fact my screen saver went into overdrive. It scrolled a slideshow of random photos for a while and then flashed these two pictures consecutively. The Jack Davis cartoon on the left and then the photo on the right. Are we being guided here by unknown forces? Is a relativity here that we are missing?

Fearless Fosdick

We must also consider the startling fact that Fearless Fosdick will be 65 this year and Social Security will kick in.

And Al Capp would be 98 this year had he not found the cure for aging in 1979. Consequently, he will always be 70. But that’s digression, a favorite talent.

Al Capp

Jack Davis by Jack Davis

Jack Davis will be 83 this December (2009). He and Jan Vermeer are favorites. Vermeer will be 375 in October. (Note to self: remember to buy a card.}

Now obviously this is not nearly as interesting as removing your own appendix, but perhaps it will do for an anesthetic while you do.

  1. So ... What brings most people to this page?

  2. Practically everything on this page has been the object of a look but by a wide margin, a Google search for Betty Boop brings the most visits. The really odd thing is that I repeated the same picture on Betty Boop’s actual birthday the following year and that page very seldom gets a visit.

  3. Perhaps the page with more hits comes up first on the list.

  4. Yes, I am pretty sure that is how Google works. The popularity puts it higher on their list. Their formula is known only to them. Making it more popular ... putting it higher on the list ... making it more popular ... Like sitting between two mirrors.

  5. I actually found this page looking up Jack Davis. Although I am also a fan of Betty Boop.

  6. According to my statcounter, the Betty Boop, Bettie Page, Little Annie Fannie and Jack Davis (all on this page) is a pretty stong draw.
