Things ain't what they used to be. (In fact, they never was.) The Profile (more than you really wanted to know) is here.
A sign at Larry McMurtry's sprawling book store in Archer City, Texas.
It's a very laid back place.
I got the story that McMurtry grew burdened with his collection named "Booked Up" which is housed in four, maybe five, buildings in center town Archer City. He wanted to close up shop but the city preferred he not do that as it is one of the few businesses left operating in the city. So it is staffed in building ONE only. The rest of the buildings, containing hundreds of thousands of books, are merely left open, unattended, for browsing. To purchase a selection, one must take the book to building ONE. Building ONE has a clerk and a small staff packing and unpacking books. And a lovely cat.
