And we still haven't found Bigfoot.
Today in 1907, just one hundred years ago, Oklahoma Territory became a State. It is number 46 or 47 of the Fifty, depending on which account you believe. Everyone in New Mexico thinks it was 46.
Well, Oklahoma may be notable for a lot of things that maybe rival other states. There's one thing for sure though, Oklahoma has the most famous state song.
When I traveled Canada a few years back, I was told on many occasions “You’re not from around here, are you?” When I told people I live in Oklahoma I often met stares of disbelief. I learned finally that many people outside the US believe that Oklahoma is actually a fictional place. Well, Camelot, Brigadoon…Oklahoma….
Some asked, “Where is that from Texas?” Others thought it was just a city.
It is odd, there are people who think the state is fictional, cannot place it on a map or did not know it was a state, but they can sing the official state song.
Happy Birthday Oklahoma. You are indeed “Okay.”
