Pogo

Today in 1948, Pogo Possum was born. Walt Kelly's famous possum from Okeefenokee swamp was as well known as his creator. Though the strip was discontinued in 1975, there are devotees with web sites promoting the comic strip. There is a museum and even a new collection being reprinted. Mr. Kelly's artwork is still the standard of the comic strip world today. He created his wonders with brush and ink. He develpoed comical characters with complex personalities against richly textured backgrounds. Pogo has been running for president since 1952. And apart from his marvelous art work, his political comments were subtle but biting. Happy Birthday Pogo. I wish you were here to hold up our mirror today. And Thanks.
