Music Monday - Stan Getz at the Shrine
Things are sort of dull around the Music Monday composing room, so for the next few weeks the cracked editorial staff has decided on a new feature for the day:
The artwork of David Stone Martin on record covers.
One exciting work of art (called Illustration by some) will be presented here each week until they run out. Each is a scan from the editor's personal library and the original copyrights apply.
They are presented here for admiration and educational purposes only.
After a typically smooth introduction from Duke Ellington, in which he tags Stan Getz as a "proponent of the Cool School" the quintet plays a live concert at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angles. It was recorded by Norman Granz as part of a concert series.
I have had this album a long time. The box was crushed on one side when it was in a stack of LPs during a move. It was thoughtlessly placed on the bottom of the pile. But the music is still there and the excellent David Stone Martin cover intact.
Today in 1991 we lost Stan Getz to liver cancer.
