Theater - The Luna, Clayton, New Mexico
So how about old theaters for a few weeks on Wednesday?
Now playing:
FRI SAT SUN 7:30 PM
Sorcerer's Apprentice
Nicolas Cage PG
"The Luna Theatre, which opened in 1916 as the Mission Theatre, with just under 400 seats, remains in operation on Main Street in Clayton. It has had the same owners for two decades, who saved the theater from certain doom. The Mission style exterior, and the interior, with its Art Deco style touches, has been painstakingly restored and refurbished over the years, including all new projection equipment.
Originally, in the basement of the Luna Theatre was a grand ballroom, the Mission Ballroom, which later was converted into a long-gone roller rink.
The owners hope to eventually replace the neon on the Deco marquee, including a "winking" moon face. The beautiful Luna won the New Mexico Heritage Preservation Award in 2001."

Purchased in 2009 by The Town of Clayton in partnership with Clayton MainStreet, the non-profit group managed to raise the money to restore the marquee. The moon is now winking again! Extensive repairs and upgrades have also been done on the building, and the theater is still showing first-run movies on weekends with the help of volunteers and some paid staff.
