Thinks happen: Found Friday: An Oklahoma Adventure

Note: This is an updated page originally from May of 2009. It is so interesting that it deserves a repeat. Every once in a while, I need a reminder of why I rescue old photographs. This is a fine example. Here is a note I got from Don Milner! What a bit of history! HOW REMARKABLE AND EXCITING- THIS IS A PICTURE OF MY DAD. DAD, JONAS, AND PEARL ( HAD THOUGHT HER NAME WAS BLUE) COURTED, AND ABOUT 1897 STARTED FROM ALLEN, OK (I.T.) TO ADA, OK TO GET MARRIED. SOME 9-10 MILES OUT OF ALLEN, A BLIZZARD THEY ENCOUNTERED, WAS SO FIERCE THAT CAUSED THEM TO SEEK SHELTER IN A NEARBY INDIAN VILLAGE. THEY CRAWLED INTO A TEEPEE TO FIND A LONE BUCK THAT JUST GAVE A FEW DISTURBED GRUNTS OF COMMUNICATION. AFTER SOME HOURS, THE SNOW LET UP AND THEY CAUTIOUSLY, BACKED OUT OF THE TEEPEE AND RETURNED BY THEIR BUGGY TO ALLEN AND WERE NEVER MARRIED. MAYBE THE BAD BEGINNING WAS CONSIDERED AN OMEN BY PEARL. IT WAS SAID, THEREAFTER, THAT SEVERAL FRIENDS OF JONAS MILNER, IN HUMOR, REFERRED TO HIM AS "INDIAN jONAS". I WAS ONLY 5 WHEN MY DAD DIED, SO HAVE RELISHED SUCH STORIES IN TRYING TO LEARN MORE OF HIM THROUGH THE YEARS. Thanks Don. It's always wonderful to learn some history behind these old photographs. 	Al & John Case Al C. Milner & John Case This one was almost too dim to see. I darkened the yellow and bumped the contrast to reveal this fine photograph.
	On Reverse: John & Bell Case John & Bell Case Maybe should be "Belle".
	"One of Dad's girls Popa's girlfriend before he married Nannie- waiting for Esther to grow up. He decided at when Nannie was 13 that he wanted to marry her.” Here is a note from Don Milner, family historian: AS A MATTER OF FACT, THIS PHOTO ALSO IS RELATED IN THE MILNER FAMILY. THE MALE SUITOR WAS NATHAN NEWTON STAFFORD, WHOM MARRIED ESTHER MILNER, A SISTER OF JONAS MILNER. NATH WAS A PROMINENT MERCHANT IN EARLY ALLEN, OK. THEIR DAUGHTER, DORIS MARRIED AMOS CLARK AND LATER RESIDED IN ARDMORE UNTIL THEIR DEATHS IN THE LAST 4-6 YEARS. I SUSPECT THESE PHOTOS CAME FROM HER GENEALOGY AND FAMILY GLEANINGS.
	On Reverse: Berta or Bertie Milner Married later to Tipton This one may be connected to the next group photo which has the name Berta penciled in the upper margin. From Don Milner: This is my Aunt; Alberta Bertha Milner 1876 - 1962. She was a sister to Jonas Milner in previous found, posted photo of my dad. She was born in Arkansas and wed Wm. Andrew Tipton there in 1893. She died 1962 in Allen, Oklahoma. I have also notified a granddaughter of Alberta to share with in the find.
	Note she is wearing the same skirt as in the above portrait. From Don Milner: I think the woman in the gingham dress at right is quite possibly alberta bertha milner tipton that is also in this collection; the other photo of bertie alone appears to be 2-3 years later but gingham dress may be the same.
	From Don Milner: This is a Milner relative that can be passed to a Tipton historian, relative: Ann Wright. This I will be glad to do.
	From Don Milner: Clymer was the family, maiden name of wife of Mr. Clark; father of Amos
	From Don Milner: Isaac H. Clark was the father of Amos R. Clark of Ardmore, Okla.
	This is regular cabinet card size The reverse says, near as I can tell: Mary Gertrude Clark & grandma Clark born April 8, 1902 age 3 months in picture
	From Don Milner: Second from left, i think this is cornia milner powell, a sister to jonas milner; she is my aunt that raised me after my dad died.
	Edgar Pegg Edgar Pegg The only connection known by me on this one is the handwriting and the fact they were in the same group in the Ardmore Flea Market. All of the photographs have been returned to the family historian, Don Milner.
