Music Monday - Janis Joplin

Janice Joplin changed the way women in popular music acted, appeared and sounded. In the few years of her short career, she set a new standard for blues singers, rock singers. She was no Patti Page or Kay Starr or Mary Ford. She was more like Big Mama Thornton or Sippie Wallace or Ma Rainey. But with a very modern drive … She was part of the “Live fast, die young” crowd. Those like Kurt Cobain, Brian Jones, Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix; all dead at 27.
	She lived like there was no tomorrow. So on this day in 1970, for Janis Joplin there was no tomorrow. We lost her to a heroin overdose. She was 27.
