1958 - Ray Charles' performance at the Newport Jazz Festival was recorded for a live album.




1968 - Bill Graham opened The Fillmore West in San Francisco, CA.




In 1969 The Rolling Stones gave a free concert for 250,000 fans in London's Hyde Park to introduce Mick Taylor as their new guitarist.

In 1978 just a scant nine years later, the EMI record pressing plant in Britain stopped printing the Rolling Stones album cover for "Some Girls" due to complaints from celebrities.

    Elvis' first record, Ray Charles at Newport and Bill Graham opening Fillmore West make this sort of slack day a really important day after all. Had forgotten about the "Some Girls" cover being pulled - seems pretty tame these days. However, the song "Some Girls" had to be so heavily sanitized when they tried to release it as a 45 for radio that it hardly sounded like the same song lyrically. One of Mick's nastier numbers!

    Thanks TNPOTUS. Yep, not too bad a day after all, when you consider the resulting impact of those events. I couldn't find very many graphics to go along with the events.
