No, sorry. I was never a big fan of this iconic figure. But there are lots of fans.
I have always been fascinated by what makes a public figure into an icon of our society. Nixon, Kennedy, Earhart, Kronkite, Marilyn, Farrah Fawcett, John Lennon and a few others. You know the ones. They were the first or the biggest or the most fortunate or maybe just the most puzzling. A couple simply knew how to lie in the face of undeniable truth. “I am not a crook.” “I haven’t had cosmetic surgery.”
Sure, they did things; some made contributions big and small, intrinsically important and utterly useless. A lot of people do that. But for some people, there is something else, another element. No matter what they produced or didn’t or what they did or didn’t do, something squeezed them beyond “Famous” to “Iconic” status. How does that happen?
So for me. Michael Jackson will always be the icon, the poster boy, for what can happen to someone who has more money than can be spent and has no skill at managing it.
King of Pop? Okay, that too if you want.

I have always felt that we collectors of "Lost" photographs were really "rescuing" old photographs. In reality, they are not lost anymore. They have been found and saved. Rescued.
When a small town newspaper updated their system of receiving photographs from the wire service by laser-fax, a large box of a few hundred AP laser-fax photographs was rescued from the dumpster.
Yeah, well... These then really are a few rescued photographs, saved 15 years in a file folder labeled "That Odd Jackson Bunch". The guilty parties know who they are.
And: The Learning Curve presents some points that you might not have thought about too.
