Francis Gary Powers
![]() | ![]() I did this painting in 1961. I was fascinated with the world changing effects of the "Powers Trial" in Russia. The incident that brought it about was regarded in importance as everything from a tempest in a teapot to the first step to the apocalypse. He was considered everything from a casualty of the cold war to a coward. He was neither. In the end, he was a hero. The world is still here. Perhaps too the story even eased east/west tensions a bit by being so public. For me his plight was inspirational. Wikipedia has an interesting collection of facts. Today is the birthday of Francis Gary Powers. Happy Birthday, sir. And thanks. |

Amazing painting... I'd give my right arm to have the ability to create along those perimeters.

Thanks Michele. It was a long time ago. Odd: the things we remember, the things we forget.
Thanks very much for your visit and comment.
