Jane Eyre, 1943 edition

Something rather special today.

While on an important mission to Ardmore, Oklahoma, this past week, we were able to peruse the four or five junk stores in the area. That is where we found, for the modest sum of 4 dollars, a book with some very interesting woodcuts for illustrations.

This is a woodcut by Fritz Eichenberg, part of a series done for a 1943 edition of Jane Eyre.

This is the Front Cover. The same is on the back cover except reversed.

Whuthering Heights and Jane Eyre were published as a set by Random House in 1943. Both books feature woodcut illustrations by Eichenberg.

Below are all the rest of the 19 woodcuts that appear in that edition of Jane Eyre. Except for the first one, all are full page illustrations, about 6 X 8 inches.
