We finally discovered the origin of my little zebra. It came from
Artisania Rinconada in Uruguay. I could only remember that it came
from somewhere in South America. Annie spotted another from the group
near the bottom of a glass door cabinet in a dark junk shop. Good
spotting.
I then started looking for some sort of organized catalog that would
tell me a little about the work and which ones to look for. There was
not much success at that. I wanted something to show me a sequence of
pictures in numerical order that gave extra information such as origin
and retirement dates, edition quantities, relative rarity and values.
I didn't find anything.
#048 Female Zebra
Above picture shows the figurine about twice actual size. All of the
figurines are three to four inches in height or width. The giraffe is the
largest at about six inches.
So I decided to assemble my own.
Following is my catalog, assembled from pictures and data mostly off
the net in auctions and informational articles. If there is any
objection to the use of any of these photographs or collected data,
just let me know and the item will be deleted and other sources will
be found to illustrate this personal catalog.
Dates and prices shown here are from the latest entry I have seen in
various sources, mostly drawn from the auctions and collections on
line.
Remember, this is information gleaned from various sites on the net.
You know how accurate THAT is...
Note that the numbering is as close to the ORIGINAL numbering
as I can guess. Some current lists substitute new subjects for retired
figures so the lists do not always agree. In some cases, while some
figures retired, the number did not; in other cases, both number and
figure retired.
Here is a catalog of the first one hundred items as per the original
numbering. This is an ongoing project so more information will be added
when it is found. There will be corrections also.
For a closer look, just click on the picture.

Hello Anyjazz, I love your catalog I have searched and searched for more info on the Artesania Rinconada. I have a lot of animals not shown in your Catalog are you still working on it?
Would you like photos of the ones I have that are not in your list? Or have you decided it's too much work?

Thanks very much for your note. You are the first person I have encountered that actually knows what they are and believe me; I have talked to many antique and figurine collectors and dealers about them in recent years.
My first encounter with the little figurines was back in the 1980’s when they were first being produced. I purchased many of them to award as prizes to my employees for excellence in performance. At the time of course, I didn’t realize how collectible they were.
Decades later my little zebra was all I had to recall the occasion. The little gift shop where I purchased them only kept about a dozen of the original designs in stock at any time. I could remember some of the others that I had purchased and that was all I had to go on when I began my original quest for a catalog.
My little catalog covers only the first 100 of the designs. Basically that was all I was interested in at the time. Since then I have expanded my interest in the little sculptures but I am not sure I am going to expand the catalog.
I found the numbering system to be very convoluted and irregular. They sometimes discontinued a model and gave the number to another design. For instance, there are at least 6 distinct versions of the adult fox #76 plus many color variations. (I have collected 126 different photographs of the first “100” designs.) There is also so little information (as you have found) on production dates and quantities. This sort of information is essential in determining possible values and scarcity.
So no, I don’t have plans at the moment to expand the catalog. Possibly I could do some of the special groups like “Professional Cats” later on.
I would however love to see your collection but I don’t know how you could go about it. Perhaps you could set up an album on Flickr, as I did, to keep them sorted out for the catalog. Flickr stores the photographs seen on this page. Click on any picture and you will be taken to the album.
In my research, I found these pages very useful.

I also collect the vintage Artesania Rinconada. There are some catalogues available but they are quite dated. I recently purchased 'the Rinconada Collector's Handbook & Secondary Market Guide" 2nd edition. There is also a website that discusses some of the variations in colour, etc. If you are interested I could scan the covers of the catalogues and provide the website info I have? Happy collecting! Thanks for your note! Any information you can add will be helpful. Email is phase65 at Yahoo dot com. I'll add your information to the lead at the top of this page.
I've been a fan for a long time. I bought my first one, the zebra, new in a gift shop back in the early '70's.
Annie and I thought about shopping for more of them on line but we decided it would be more fun to "discover" them ourselves in the dark little junk shops and "antique" malls. We found #89 the water buffalo, this week for only 5 dollars. Our little collection is growing very slowly but it is such fun when we find one tucked in with the ceramic salt and pepper shakers and the Hummels

Your information is very helpful,I think we have all your listings. Can you recommend any collectors that would like to by all 225 pieces? Best regards Chuck Johnson

Hello, I hope after all this time that you have discovered that Echo Hanebrink of Echo's Critters online produced a catalog ages ago. She may still have copies. Best wishes.
