Never heard of him! Who is/was he?

Hugh Downs is a velvet voiced radio/TV announcer and host. He has worked in many well-known television programs from the Jack Parr show and Johnny Carson to 20/20 and Family Guy. His demeanor and voice projected intellect and gentility into any project. His prolific career is well covered in his Wiki page, although it does not mention this record.

Of particular interest was his interview in “Survival of Spaceship Earth” (1972) along with Rene Dubos, Margaret Mead, and John D. Rockefeller III, a documentary on the Earth's environmental crisis. 1972!

Next time I fire up the turntable I'll give it a nostalgic spin. Best I can recall, these were bearable renditions. Was he good? Well, did you notice he didn’t have a string of number one hits?

The selections on the disc are:

    Two Brothers
    To Pass Away the Time
    I Wonder as I Wander
    The E-r-i-e was A-risin’
Drink To Me Only With Thine Eyes
The Ride Back From Boot Hill
    So Long, Blue Valley
    Sweet Li’l Jesus Boy
    Look to the Rainbow
    The Delaware Light
    Scarlet Ribbons
    Lord of All Hopefulness
