Never heard of him! Who is/was he?
ReplyDeleteHugh Downs is a velvet voiced radio/TV announcer and host. He has worked in many well-known television programs from the Jack Parr show and Johnny Carson to 20/20 and Family Guy. His demeanor and voice projected intellect and gentility into any project. His prolific career is well covered in his Wiki page, although it does not mention this record.
ReplyDeleteOf particular interest was his interview in “Survival of Spaceship Earth” (1972) along with Rene Dubos, Margaret Mead, and John D. Rockefeller III, a documentary on the Earth's environmental crisis. 1972!
You're right, I don't have that one!! Hugh Downs? Whoddathunkit? I guess he already had the voice factor for singing, but could he stay on key?
ReplyDeleteNext time I fire up the turntable I'll give it a nostalgic spin. Best I can recall, these were bearable renditions. Was he good? Well, did you notice he didn’t have a string of number one hits?
